Why Christianity?

Edinburgh Street Scene - Nothing to do with the text It seems barely a day can pass without coming across more examples of , intolerance and the mockery that the “faithful” make of their own gospels.

Now, I have been asked a few times recently why bears the brunt of my attacks here, rather than the other two crackpot, abrahamic religions. This is especially relevant as most of my vitrol towards religion is based on its refusal to accept science and its abhorrent intollerance. On the face of it, Christianity is “more” tolerant than or , so why do I attack Christianity the most?

spooky cat - nothing to do with the textThe simplest answer is that I live in a Christian nation and the majority of my contact with bad-religion is with the Christian “.” I suspect that answer is far from complete though. The main thing which amuses me about the intolerance shown by religious bigots, is how it flies in the face of the supposed compassion, care and love their beliefs stand for. Judaism and Islam dont really fall into this category, being fundamentally brutal religions from the outset.

In the case of Judaism, the Old Testament is almost a text book about genocide, opression, cruelty and slaughter all done in the name of an apparently crazed, vengeful deity. Islam may have had more compassionate beginings, but this has certainly changed. YouTube is filled with covert video footage of Islamic preachers explaining who it is right to beat your wife (as long as isn’t her face), and the current middle eastern situation shows how this is a cult fixated with death.

So, hopefully that explains why Christianity gets the brunt of the jokes here. I will try to keep my eyes open for suitable non-Christian examples, but it is not easy when the Christians (dont you just love churches?) produce so much drivel!

By the way – I know the pictures dont have much (anything) to do with the text, but they do brighten things up a bit 🙂
