This photo was taken on 11 May 06, which is why it looks a bit cloudy and overcast - not long after the shot, there was an almost biblical downpour.
Anyway, the important thing is the temple to Mithras. This is from a site just south of Hadrian’s Wall. Mithras was an Eastern deity, worshipped by a secretive cult and a lot of the belief system was similar to early Christianity. Generally speaking Mithraic sites were pretty beaten down by the later Christians so the fact that this one remains at all is impressive.
