SuSE - Apache - PHP 5

article written by TW.

Well, it seems that despite the linuxquestions site giving great and helpful information - and my YaST apparently having installed Apache 2 and PHP 5, I still cant get the thing to work.

My love of Linux is rapidly running out. This is very frustrating, especially as setting up Apache/MySQL/PHP/CF on a Windows machine took about 10 minutes top and worked perfectly out of the box.

I will perserve but any advice / tips welcome.

  1. I hope you are having more luck.
All I can say here is that Linux has got much easier* and that it is worth making some efforts for Open Source.
If it’s any consolation - my Windows PC has almost never run Apache etc. I used to have three Apache installations running at once, without any of them providing any functionality but it being impossible to uninstall or disable any of them.

    * On my first attempt to install Linux almost ten years ago, it took 2 and a half full days to get a screen display before the rest of the installation could even proceed.
