Paypal vs Firefox – continued

Well the saga (first outlined on this blog a few days ago) seems to be continuing. I still cant log into paypal using Firefox and I am still sending complaints to paypal. At least now they are responding :-).

The first reply was on 21 Feb (only FOUR days after my complaint) and was from a help desk person who shall remain anonymous (I dont fault her for her answers so I dont see why she should get the blame for Paypal). The response was as follows:

Hello my name is ****, I will be happy to assist you with your question regarding log in issues.

Your web browser must be configured to accept “cookies” to access most secure web sites, including PayPal. Below are instructions on how to enable cookies for various browsers. You can find your browser version by selecting “Help” from the top menu bar, and selecting “About (Program Name)”. For example, to find your version of Internet Explorer, you would select “Help” and “About Internet Explorer.”

To enable cookies, follow the steps below for your specific browser:

Window Users

To enable cookies using FireFox: (… snip good firefox advice …)

Now, as you can imagine this is not the correct advice and bore little relation to the fault I had reported. It was blatantly obvious that this was a standard response to anyone who reports log in problems. Interestingly, paypal also sent out a questionnaire asking what I thought of the response πŸ™‚ Nice.

Anyway, I replied back saying thanks, but its not the cookies. This time the response was even more well thought out (Again I have blanked the operators name as I see no mileage in naming and shaming):

Hello my name is ****, I will be happy to assist you with your question regarding accessing your PayPal account.

Unfortunately, we have not had other reports of users accessing our site. If you are positive your cookies are enabled, and do not have the PayPal website blocked, I recommend contacting us by phone so we can further assist you.

This was followed by paypal’s phone numbers and CST opening hours. As I have no idea what CST means as a time zone (and dont see why I should google it for them) and no idea what the dialing code for the country of origin for this message is, I have less than no intention of phoning them

What a wonderful webbased community Paypal provides.

Can I ask – if anyone else has had “issues” with Paypal and firefox – PLEASE let them know. If you have had the same problem as me, PLEASE let them know. (And you can tell me as well πŸ™‚ )

  2. I have tried messing about with cookies – not to that level of detail though. Largely it annoys me that “I” have to go to so much effort to access a site. If paypal had any competitors of worth…
