Santiago: it is very true that Darwin was not personally opposed to the idea of a creator deity. This is something supporters of Intelligent Design fail to realise. In general terms, however, Darwin only started the ball rolling over evolution. His work is not perfect and his ideas have been developed by modern scientists. It is a mistake to grant Darwin, or his work, an almost “divine” status. His basic ideas were correct but science has moved on since then.
In the sense that it is commonly used “creationists” means people who support the idea that all life on Earth was created in its current form. This mindset is very much the enemy of science and evolution.
