Being a native and a lover of Baltimore, it drives me nuts when people outside our borders ask questions like, “I’ve seen The Wire. Is it safe to come to Baltimore?” YES!!! The Wire is an amazing show and maybe this perception speaks to the quality of the translation from Simon and Burn’s experience with the politics and crime and school system and media. However, it is not the whole of the city. A city that is thriving and beautiful and has many, many qualities that tip the scales in its favor.

Thank you for enjoying the show. And thank you for realizing that it is a portrayal of issues faced by almost any post-industrial city. It’s not just Baltimore.
