Everything about them undermines the concept of having websites that are "accessible" in any meaningful use of the phrase. Despite this, I remember .net magazine having an article on how to make them work for partly sighted people. The mad concept that they could see well enough to know it was there, and click on the even worse option is only outweighed by how bloody difficult it is to use the aural versions. CAPTCHAs are truly the work of Loki. Spot on.
