Having a picture is a good idea - if the shop assistant looks at it. With most chip and pin installations, the card reader is between the assistant and the customer, allowing the customer to insert the card without any intervention by the shop staff. This undermines any value provided by the photo.

If, however, we still relied on signatures having your photograph would be excellent.

Online shopping remains a problem, but I dont see how carrying a card-reader around with you solves that, it just makes it harder to shop online.

I use my debit card for most transactions, and my card has my picture *on* it. Pretty hard to fudge that one. Course, that doesn't protect me online, but that's not what we're talking about here.
