I can’t believe people get this over excited about the A-Level pass rate. It’s ridiculously high in part because A-Levels aren’t compulsory. Since they’re modular if you’re looking like failing you just won’t enter. Even when I did them in the olden days most people realised well before exam entry date whether they were likely to get a pass.
One of the things that I think is funny is people mocking subjects like Media Studies. Because in fact it’s actually uncommon to get an A – but apparently it’s an easy subject. Maths on the other hand has vast swathes of candidates getting an A – but apparently maths is hard. Meh. People are picking subjects that they can do.
