As they'll be compulsory, everyone will have have to carry one, and hence be armed, and won't need to carry knives. Frankly, I haven't seen one argument for ID cards that hasn't a) been thoroughly debunked, b) doesn't already have an alternative or c) is a very expensive and invasive "solution" to a non-problem.
