The problem, as I see it, is that the more the whackos are ignored the more their brand of nonsense is allowed to spread. Then, after a while, people will start to “research” things and only find the nonsense with no counter arguments in place. While there will still be lots (I hope) of people who can see through this, not all will. In turn they will spread the nonsense until, eventually, nonsense will (ironically) evolve to become the accepted knowledge.
