]]>I have but one question.
Do these tabloids – or the broadsheets for that matter – distinguish clearly between ‘journalists’ and ‘columnists’? I do not know which particular headlines or bylines the McCanns were upset by, but one could argue that journalism has responsibilities whereas columnism (sic!) does not come with such liabilities. No?
In saying all this, I must say that I have rather old-fashioned views on parental responsibility. I would also agree that there is an element of classism in the reportage. Why only Shannon Matthews? What of Scarlett Keeling? And I believe the McCanns’ spokesperson was given by the FCO. It may have changed now.
Thought provoking.
