Chain Letters

Now that I am back online, I am suffering from the mountains of chain emails my “friends” send me, thinking I am actually interested in reading some nonsense about how sending this email to 10 people in 1/10th of a second will make my wish come true.

I have found one which is strangely interesting – but, I suspect, not for the reasons the originator wanted. The “Friend” who sent it to me is some one I have not seen face to face for about 10 years now and (based on the other emails they send me), they have either been born again or think I am. Pretty amazing really.

Anyway, the email, titled “Wow, what a wake up call,” reads: (it is long, so it is after the fold)

Dear God:

Dear Concerned Student:

I am not allowed in schools.

Sincerely,

How did this get started?…
Let’s see,
I think it started when Madeline Murray O’Hare complained She didn’t want any prayer in our schools.
And we said, OK…

——————
Then, someone said you better not read the Bible in school,
The Bible that says “Thou shalt not kill,
Thou shalt not steal, And love your neighbors as yourself,”

And we said, OK…

—————–
Dr. Benjamin Spock said
We shouldn’t spank our children when they misbehaved because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.

And we said,
An expert should know what he’s talking about.
So we won’t spank them anymore…

——————
Then someone said Teachers and principals better not discipline our children when they misbehave.
And the school administrators said No faculty member in this school better touch a student when they misbehave because we don’t want any bad publicity,

And we surely don’t want to be sued.
And we accepted their Reasoning…
——————

And the entertainment industry said, let’s make TV shows and movies that promote Profanity, violence and illicit sex…

And let’s record music that encourages Rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes …
And we said, it’s just entertainment and it has no adverse effect and nobody takes it seriously anyway, So go right ahead.

——————
Now we’re asking ourselves
Why our children have no conscience,
Why they don’t know right from wrong,
And why it doesn’t bother them to Kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.

——————
Undoubtedly, If we thought about it long and hard enough, we could figure it out. I’m sure it has a great deal to do with… “WE REAP WHAT WE SOW,”
Pass it on If you think it has merit! But if you discard this thought process, then don’t sit back and complain about what bad shape this country is in!

This is pretty comical anyway I try to look at it. I shoud clarify that my “friend” is from the UK and has lived here all his life. He often sends me emails like this (about the “American Way” and such similar nonsense), and sometimes he sends patriotic emails which are blatantly American with a few key words changed to make them look “British.” As far as I know, he is not insane…

Anyway, this email amazes me – especially as it implies there are people who actually think this is a valid line of reasoning with a reasonable conclusion at the end. The email was accompanied by a “Petition” to “allow God back into School” and my friends name was at number 1034. (The petition had lots of names and email addresses so I felt it improper to repeat it here).

This implies that 1033 people had previously read this, agreed and added their name to the list. Stunning.

I am not going to indulge myself in a point by point breakdown of the nonsense here, I am assuming that if you are a visitor (yes, both of you) to this blog you can already see where the madness lies. I will say though, that if we can pass laws which restrict God’s ability to act we really need to get on top of it. So much for an omnipotent Deity. You would never catch Toutatis using a wuss-out like this.
