All I can say here is that Linux has got much easier* and that it is worth making some efforts for Open Source. 
If it's any consolation - my Windows PC has almost never run Apache etc. I used to have three Apache installations running at once, without any of them providing any functionality but it being impossible to uninstall or disable any of them.

* On my first attempt to install Linux almost ten years ago, it took 2 and a half full days to get a screen display before the rest of the installation could even proceed.</description>
